Benicia Bar Shooting Suspect Arrested

BENICIA (CBS SF) – A man who opened fire inside a Benicia bar when he was denied service and wounded two patrons has been arrested, authorities announced Monday.

Benicia police said 33-year-old Vallejo resident Daniel Lopez was taken into custody on Sunday night. He has been booked into Solano County jail for attempted murder, assault with a firearm and 3 counts of brandishing a firearm.

Investigators released this video tape following the shooting in the hopes of identifying the suspected shooter.

Several leads came in on social media leading the police to Lopez, who was taken into custody after a high-risk traffic stop.

Authorities said the shooting victims are best friends and neither of them know Lopez. One of the men has been released from the hospital and the other is
still under observation and in stable condition.

At around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, a 911 caller said a man armed with a gun was inside the Bottom of the Fifth bar at 498 Military E., according to police.

As officers were en route to the scene, they received additional reports of shots fired inside the bar with two people were injured.

Once at the scene, officers found a Benicia man and a Texas man, both 45 years old, suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Witnesses told officers a verbal argument had occurred at the bar before the man brandished a gun and fired it. The suspect then left the bar.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact Benicia police at (707) 745-4311 or the Solano Crime Stoppers at (770) 644-7867. Callers have the option to remain anonymous.
