Michael Stipe Sings 'It's the End of the Year as We Know It' On Colbert

By Jon Wiederhorn

NEW YORK (RADIO.COM) – It looks like R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe isn't so comfortable with the state of the world. Last night (Dec. 15) on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Stipe contributed to a recap song about the events of 2016 that played off of R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World as we Know it (and I Feel Fine)." The tune was called "It's the End of the Year as We Know It" and Stipe refused of sing the chorus-closing line "I feel fine."

James Franco joined the duo towards the end of the song. In addition to the taking part in the spoof, Stipe sat down with Colbert and talked about his lumberjack beard, a book he made with no pages, R.E.M.'s last concert performance and the 25th Anniversary reissue of Out of Time. He also said his Christmas wish would be for the members of the electoral college not to approve Donald Trump as the next President of the United States.
