Oakland Street Corner Confrontation Turns Deadly

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- One person was dead and another wounded after an early Sunday morning confrontation on an Oakland street corner ended in gunfire, authorities said.

Police said officers were called to the shooting scene at 1:05 a.m. Sunday in the 2500 block of Mason Street in the Melrose district.

Upon arrival, officers found one man dead at the scene and another wounded. The shooting victim was taken to a hospital and expected to recover.

Authorities said it appears a street corner argument turned deadly. No information has been released on a suspect nor has the dead man's identity been released.

The killing was the 80th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year compared to 88 homicides last year.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $15,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooter. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
