Covered California Midnight Deadline Looms For Signups Who Want Insurance To Start Jan. 1

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- People signing up for Covered California who want their health insurance to begin January 1 have until midnight Monday.

The deadline was extended in an effort to align with the new federal deadline for Healthcare.gov.

The final deadline is January 31. Insurance for those enrollees won't kick in until February or March.

President-elect Donald Trump along with Republicans on Capitol Hill have vowed to repeal the Affordable Care Act championed by President Obama.

Nonetheless, people continue to opt in for the health insurance, familiarly known as Obamacare. Almost 200,000 Californians have signed up during the current open-enrollment period.
