3 Injured, One Critically, In Fire At Google I/O Conference

MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS SF) — A fire during Google’s I/O conference at the Shoreline Amphitheatre Thursday afternoon sent three event staff workers to the hospital, according to authorities.

The Mountain View Fire Department said one of those victims has life threatening injuries.

There are reports that the fire started in a concession area, but at this point it’s unclear what sparked it.

Images from Chopper 5 showed two fire trucks near the Stage Right concession stand. Police tape was visible cordoning off a grassy area with picnic tables and umbrellas.

Other parts of the Shoreline were not impacted by the fire.

The three victims have been transported to an area hospital. Fire investigators with the department are at the scene.

Google issued a statement Thursday evening:

We can confirm there was a small fire in a kitchen at Shoreline Ampitheatre. We’re thankful to the fire department for putting it out and ensuring everyone’s safety. No attendees were hurt but regretfully, 3 event staff were injured and we’re making sure they receive the proper treatment.

So far, there was no word yet on how the people were injured. The press release additionally said that the Google developers conference would continue as scheduled.
