Caltrain Fatally Strikes Person On Tracks In Sunnyvale

SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) -- A southbound train hit and killed a man on the tracks at the Caltrain station in Sunnyvale Friday morning, Caltrain officials said.

Train No. 218 hit the man at 8:21 a.m. at the station, which is located at 121 W. Evelyn Ave.

The station's southbound platform remains closed to passengers, but the northbound platform was reopened by 12:45 p.m.

Trains were initially single-tracking, causing delays of up to 45 minutes, but by 12:10 p.m. had begun double-tracking and are now back on schedule.

The man's identity has not been released by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office. None of the 60 or so passengers on board the train were injured.
