Body Found In Lake Near Tahoe With Rope, Anchor Tied To Legs

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE (AP) -- Sheriff's deputies are investigating after they found the body of a man in a lake near Lake Tahoe with a rope and anchor tied around his legs.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday the body pulled from Fallen Leaf Lake has been sent to the Sacramento County Coroner's Office for a forensic autopsy. Deputies say it could have been a homicide or a suicide.

A search crew found the man last month while searching for drowning victims with an underwater rover provided by Bruce's Legacy, a nonprofit specializing in search and recovery.

In August, they found a body that may be that of a 21-year-old woman believed to have drowned in 2001. No foul play is suspected in that case.

They've been unable to find the body of a 21-year-old man who reportedly drowned in 1996.
