Bruce MacGowan started his broadcast career in small-market radio and TV, spending three-plus years in his early and mid 20s in Eureka. In 1979, he moved on to Portland, Oregon and a weekend job with KPTV Channel 12. Then in 1980, it was further to the north to host a drive-time sports radio show on KVI Seattle. In 1981, he spent the entire year working in New York City as a Sportscaster for UPI radio.
In 1982, he returned to the Bay Area, doing network sports radio for several years until KNBR, ‘The Sports Leader’ hired him in 1988.
MacGowan worked at KNBR until 2006, and then spent four years with Fox/Comcast sports Bay Area as a baseball feature reporter and producer. In 2010-2016, he did morning, afternoon and weekend sports updates for KGO Newstalk 810. He was hired by KCBS in March of 2017.
