Hal has been the sports director and afternoon sports anchor at KCBS since 1987. In fact, Hal has been covering Bay Area sports for more than three decades. He has served as the radio play-by-play voice at Stanford University, Santa Clara University, and San Jose State University, as well as the Oakland Athletics, and has done a variety of football, basketball and soccer telecasts. He has also served as the San Francisco 49ers public address announcer for 20 years during their Super Bowl days during the 80’s and 90’s.
Before returning to the Bay Area, Hal served as the football and basketball voice of the University of Oregon from 1984 to 1987, and prior to that began his broadcasting career in San Jose.
Hal’s sports reports and play-by-play work has earned awards from the Radio-Television News Directors Association, the Associated Press, and the United Press International, and was elected to the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame in 2011.
