MICHELLE GRIEGO

Michelle Griego wore a hair bow, told riddles and read the news when she first appeared on TV.

The Colorado native started her career in journalism at the tender age of 11 where she co-anchored “Two Bits,” a KWGN-TV kids’ news show for nearly three years. The program was seen in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Nebraska.

“At the time there weren’t a lot of Latinas on TV,” Griego says. “It felt like I was providing a service, because kids would come up to me and start talking about current events.”

She knew instantly that journalism was her calling.

Michelle attended Colorado State University and Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Before moving to the Bay Area, Michelle worked at CBS4 in Denver for eight years an online editor, reporter and anchor. Her favorite live shots include breaking news or “being knee-high in snow.”

Michelle joined KPIX 5 in March 2012 as co-anchor of KPIX 5 News This Morning, and can be seen weekdays from 4:30 -7 a.m., and on KPIX 5 News at Noon. She also hosts Bay Area Focus, a locally produced talk show that airs Sunday mornings on KPIX 5 and KBCW, 44 cable 12.

Michelle likes to be in the forefront of news. She’s covered the mass shooting at the Aurora movie theater; the opening of the eastern span of the Bay Bridge and the San Francisco Giants World Series Victory parades. She also reported from New Orleans for ten days when the San Francisco 49ers went to the Super Bowl.

Michelle has always looked up to Diane Sawyer and Christiane Amanpour. “They’re strong journalists not afraid to ask the tough questions,” Michelle said.

She was honored with an Emmy in 2014 for anchoring KPIX 5 at 6 a.m.

Her volunteer work includes sitting on the boards for the Latin American Educational Foundation and Adelante Mujer, an organization that helps Latina high school students pursue higher education and professional careers.

Her favorite activity is spending time with her husband and three daughters.
