Big Bear Lake
Summer arrived in California on Sunday with fire season in full swing, as crews knocked down dozens of small blazes throughout the state and slowed the spread of a huge forest fire in the San Bernardino Mountains.
Hot, dry California was beginning to feel the full brunt of fire season as blazes burned throughout the state, though most areas dodged any serious destruction.
The USGS reported Saturday morning that 2 quakes measuring 4.6 and 4.4 on the Richter scale shook the region around Big Bear Lake northeast of San Bernardino.
Fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner hid in a mountain condominium as a door-to-door manhunt took place outside and, after he finally made his break, apparently killed himself with a gunshot to the head amid a fiery battle with police.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff maintained Wednesday that his deputies did not intentionally burn down the mountain cabin where a wanted former LAPD police officer is thought to have died.
It now turns out that as police searched the Big Bear Lake area of California for days, fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner was hiding in a vacation cabin across the street from their command post.
