Bishop O’Dowd High School
Ivan Rabb, an East Bay high school senior who is one of the nation’s top college basketball recruits, announced Monday that he will continue his career in the Bay Area.
Instead of signing the morality contract enacted by the Diocese of Oakland, Bishop O’Dowd teacher Kathleen Purcell crossed out portions of it, and will be let go after graduation this year.
Teachers at Catholic schools in the East Bay were recently asked to sign a morality pledge covering their lives beyond the school walls as part of their next contract. As a result, it now looks like at least one member of the staff at Bishop O’Dowd High School won’t be returning next year.
No matter what the level of ability a high school student athlete has, parents should understand the value of getting involved in their child’s program of choice as they collectively enter one of the most important chapters of their lives.
