A memorial service will be held Wednesday at Joint Base Lewis-McChord for a San Jose soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.

The military said a Hawaii-based soldier from the Bay Area died this week from injuries suffered during from a bomb attack in Afghanistan.

Santa Rosa Contractor Killed In Kabul Was Also Ham Radio Operator

The U.S. contractor who died Wednesday after an Afghan military pilot opened fire at Kabul Airport was James McLaughlin, a ham radio operator from Santa Rosa, friends said.
