The Dalai Lama bought his spiritual message of compassion Monday to about 4,000 people inside an arena at Santa Clara University as about 100 protesters made noise outside.
The spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, arrives in the Bay Area on Saturday for a series of public lectures about happiness, compassion, and business.
Tibetan Buddhism has long been a popular spiritual practice in the Bay area, but the region’s 1,500 Tibetan-Americans are just now getting a community center to call their own.
The Dalai Lama will be spending some time Wednesday with critically ill children at Ronald McDonald House in Palo Alto. Before that, his Holiness will visit an inner city school in East Palo Alto.
His Holiness is holding a number of events this week in Silicon Valley, that includes stops in East Palo Alto and the San Jose Convention Center.
