Domain Awareness Center
The “Domain Awareness Center” was going to monitor surveillance cameras mounted throughout the city, but that plan was scaled back after hours of debate. Instead, the plan was approved to keep an eye on The Port of Oakland.
Oakland official have delayed a vote on hiring a contractor for a controversial surveillance system in the city.
The decision to accept $2.2 million in federal dollars for the Domain Awareness Center was met with plenty of resistance, as protesters shouted “shame, shame” following the approval.
