More than 100 officers, elected officials and civilians today attended a memorial and flag ceremony at San Jose police headquarters for the 11 officers who have died while on duty in the city since 1924.
Investigators are searching for a woman who may hold clues to the background and history of the man who shot and killed two Santa Cruz police officers on Tuesday before being gunned down in a shootout with police.
The location for Thursday’s memorial for two slain Santa Cruz police officers has been moved to the HP Pavilion in San Jose to fit the large number of people expected to attend, a police spokesman said.
The joint public memorial for Detective Sgt. Loran “Butch” Baker and Detective Elizabeth Butler will take place at 11 a.m. at the Kaiser Permanente Arena, Chief Kevin Vogel said.
Several hundred family members, friends and colleagues paid tribute Thursday to the 51 Oakland police officers who have died in the line of duty since 1867.
