A monument honoring the victims of the 1991 Oakland Hills firestorm was vandalized over the weekend, according to the Oakland Landscape Committee, which oversees the monument’s maintenance.
Twenty years ago Thursday, a hillside fire blown out of control by hot, dry winds killed 25 people and destroyed more than 3,000 homes in the Oakland and Berkeley hills.
