Cal Nabs Tennessee Head Coach To Lead Men’s Basketball Program

Martin replaces Mike Montgomery, who retired last month after six seasons in Berkeley. Martin went 63-41 in three seasons at Tennessee, including a 24-13 mark and an appearance in the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament this season. He also was previously the coach at Missouri State.

Cal Men’s Basketball Coach Montgomery Retires

The 67-year-old Montgomery decided to retire following an up-and-down season that ended last Wednesday with a loss to SMU in the quarterfinals of the NIT.

Late Charge Not Enough, Cal Men Fall To SMU In NIT

Jabari Bird scored 15 of his 20 points after halftime, when Cal (21-14) had to overcome a seven-point deficit. Justin Cobbs had 18 points and David Kravish 12.

Cal Men Hold Off Arkansas In NIT

Jabari Bird scored 19 points, David Kravish had 13 points and eight rebounds and California beat Arkansas 75-64 on Monday night to advance to the third round of the NIT.

No. 20 Cal Women Fall To Washington State In Pac-12 Tourney

Reshanda Grey led Cal (21-9) with 26 points, but second-leading scorer Brittany Boyd finished with nine points and fouled out with 6 minutes left. Gennifer Brandon finished with 20 points off the bench for California, which has lost two straight, and Afure Jemerigbe added 16.
