Oakland city leaders joined residents in calling for the police and the mayor to provide more protection after the recent high-profile shooting deaths of a popular dog walker and a young girl attending a sleepover.
66-year-old Judy Salamon was shot and killed while she was driving a few blocks from her home on Fern Street in the Fairfax neighborhood. Police said shots were fired into her car around 1:30 on Wednesday afternoon, sending it rolling down a hill and crashing into a parked vehicle.
Police were reviewing surveillance video on Thursday while investigating the fatal shooting of a 66-year-old woman as she was driving a few blocks from her home in a quiet Oakland neighborhood.
An elderly woman was shot and killed while driving through East Oakland this afternoon, a police officer said.
