Minimum Wage Increase
Under the proposed initiative, which will need thousands of signatures to qualify for the November ballot, the minimum wage at businesses with fewer than 100 employees would increase to $13 an hour in 2015; $14 by 2016 and $15 by 2017.
On a first reading of the proposal Tuesday night, the Richmond City Council voted to hike the minimum wage to $12.30 an hour.
California’s minimum wage would rise to $10 an hour within three years under a bill passed Thursday by the state Legislature, making it one of the highest rates in the nation.
Voters in San Jose will get to decide on a measure to increase the city’s minimum wage to $10 now that the proposal has made the November ballot.
