The Oakland Unified School District is sending in extra resources to Alliance Academy after video surfaced of a fight between a substitute teacher and student. But some teachers told KPIX 5 the action may be too late.
Since the beginning of the school year, the Oakland Unified School District has expelled five students from Alliance Academy and police have responded to the campus at least 13 times.
A new video showing a teacher and student scuffling inside an Oakland classroom is just one example of the safety issues teachers face at the school, according to educators.
Two of the largest school districts in the area are abandoning their joint effort to bring in millions of dollars in federal funds through the Obama Administration’s Race to the Top program.
OUSD is the only school district in Northern California to receive such a grant, from the Federal Health Resources and Services Administration.
The district had to come up with 15% in matching funds in order to secure the grant.
