With Thanksgiving a day away, local food banks are reporting a surge in turkey donations. In San Francisco, St. Anthony’s Foundation charity managers said the need has grown as well.
In honor of Veteran’s Day Monday, St. Anthony’s Foundation of San Francisco organized a free suit giveaway for the homeless and low-income veterans.
Volunteers began chopping, slicing and dicing at San Francisco’s Glide Memorial Church early Thanksgiving morning in the Tenderloin where the church will serve more than 5,000 meals to the poor and homeless.
The economic downturn has prompted a large number of families and the working poor to seek charity this Thanksgiving holiday.
San Francisco’s Mayor Ed Lee is encouraging residents to participate in the Season of Giving so that the less fortunate don’t suffer this Thanksgiving.
The founder of online classifieds site Craigslist has joined with the University of San Francisco to help equip a computer lab catering to low-income and tech-challenged residents in the city’s Tenderloin District.
