All the problems that seemed to be facing the 49ers were worked out on the field. The offense looked fine, the defense stepped up and the result was a road win, that was far from a lock. f the 49ers can continue to improve, they will be back in the thick of things at the end of the season.
The New Orleans Saints played a much better game on defense as they faced off with the Seattle Seahawks this time, but there were plenty of other problems. It was a hard-fought effort and a really good season, but the road woes have got to stop.
The Indianapolis Colts were hoping to not end up having to come from behind in another huge deficit this week. Well, they didn’t have to until they got to the fourth quarter and the New England Patriots opened it up.
The Cincinnati Bengals haven’t won a playoff game in 23 years and now one more year can be added onto that streak. The San Diego Chargers were able to continue their rejuvenated season by dominating the Bengals and eliminating Cincinnati from the playoffs.
The New Orleans Saints had never won a road playoff game and were often marred by their road woes and the “cold curse.” Temperatures in Philadelphia were down in the twenties and Drew Brees was faltering, but the Saints left it in the hands, or on the foot, of their newest player in Shayne Graham.
If grades would have been handed out after the first half of the game, the Indianapolis Colts would have received straight F’s across the entire board. With the second largest comeback in NFL playoff history ousting the Kansas City Chiefs, it’s quite amazing what a difference just 30 minutes can make.
The underdog Atlanta Falcons gave San Francisco all they wanted Monday Night, but could not pull off the upset. In the final game played at Candlestick Park the 49ers sent off the stadium in style with a dramatic, playoff clinching win.
Any time a team allows an offensive NFL record to be set against them, it hasn’t been a good day.
The defense fought hard, but in the end could not hold up. With no help from the offensive side of the ball, the defense was fighting a losing battle, and the result was another resounding loss. This time though, its to a team, that San Francisco figured to beat. While there is reason to be concerned, the 49ers will be alright, and still on track for their 2013 goals.
The Oakland Raiders accomplished their first victory of the season against a struggling Jacksonville Jaguars with a performance that should have been better.
