West Valley College
I’m going to sidestep the question of how we pay for this (and I realize that’s a pretty big step) to focus on what’s at the core of this: a recognition that community colleges are more than just “high schools with ashtrays”, as they’ve often been called. Way more.
All students, faculty and staff were being evacuated off campus Wednesday morning and the campus was officially closed after college officials reported receiving a “credible threat.”
Education desperately needs people who are willing to serve students in a way that contributes toward what our society, economy and culture need.
It will be a longer wait for classes, higher tuition and fees for students and even the possibility of layoffs and turning some students away for community colleges across the state.
