On certain nights every month, neighborhood art galleries throw open their doors to the art-loving public. Many offer free wine and small bites, with occasional live music and performance art. Everyone is welcome to stroll from gallery to gallery enjoying fine art, sculpture and more at these Bay Area Art Walks.

San Francisco: First Thursday Art

First Thursday Art

A downtown tradition since 1993, on the first Thursday of every month many of the San Francisco Art Dealer Association member galleries are open late for a casual open house. The Thursday Night Art Stroll is an artful way to meet local artists, drink wine, soak up some culture, and connect with art-loving friends after work. You can also explore certain galleries that are typically open only by appointment. From 5:30-7:30, you’ll want to start in Union Square and head east. Make sure to stop at 77 Geary, 49 Geary and 251 Post Street, as all three of those buildings hold multiple galleries.

North Bay: Sausalito Art Walk

Sausalito Art Walk

Every second Wednesday of the months May through October is home to the Sausalito Art Walk. Head across the Golden Gate Bridge to charming Sausalito and take in artists, performers and live music, including entertainment for the whole family. Walk along this scenic, seaside enclave overlooking the skyline of San Francisco, meet the artists, enjoy the entertainment and take in the world-class view, a masterpiece itself.
