San Francisco Pride has been said to be “one of the last remaining pride events that can truly be called a rite of passage.” 2011 marks the 41st anniversary of the San Francisco Pride Celebration and Parade. Here is a list of the many events happening in the Bay Area to celebrate:

San Francisco Pride Celebration

Saturday, June 25th & Sunday, June 26th
San Francisco Civic Center

With over 200 parade contingents, 300 exhibitors, and 19 stages and venues, the San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration and Parade is the largest LGBT gathering in the nation. The San Francisco Pride Celebration is packed with a wide variety of exhibitors, artists, music of all kinds, performers, dance stages and venues, and fun. There really is something here for everyone.

So Not The Cleavers

Performing Now – Sunday, June 26th

So Not The Cleavers will deliver big laughs during Pride Week this June. The show is comprised four veteran nationally headlining comedians: two gay parents (Kevin Meaney and Vickie Shaw) and two straight parents (Maryellen Hooper and Dan St. Paul) coming together to show that parents are parents regardless of sexuality. Net proceeds go to the American Foundation for Equal Rights to repeal Prop 8.

Nightlife Celebrates ‘Pride’

This week, kick off your celebration of SF Pride weekend at NightLife. Frameline film festival will present a film in the planetarium at 6:30 and selected shorts in African Hall. Get creative and participate in a “tranimal” costume contest judged by drag superstars Heklina, Juanita MORE and San Francisco’s own Verasphere. See a drag show by legendary Trannyshack hostess Heklina along with stars Holy McGrail and Suppositori Spelling. Music by Miss Juanita MORE, Stanley Frank and Chelsea Starr in the east pavilion, and by Honey Soundsystem in the aquarium.

Trans March 2011

The SF Trans March is an SF Pride event specifically made to celebrate transgenders and to speak up for their rights. Dolores Park Rally & Trans March to UN Plaza: There’s a rally in Dolores Park from 3:30 pm to 7 pm with speakers and then the group (which has attracted more than 4,000 in the past) marches at 7pm, going North Dolores Street, makes a right turn on Market Street and a left on 7th Street where they’ll gather again at UN Plaza.

DY** March: The Women & Pride

The San Francisco DY*** March is a gathering of close to 200,000 lesbians, supportive women and (mostly) gay men intended to be a precursor to the wider LGBT Pride events but its own separate celebration. Usually there’s DJs, live music, drag dancers, speakers and of course lots of pink, wild costumes & make-up and a colorful march. A word of warning: the march, as all SF DY** events, are intended for lesbians and women so men are welcome to stand and support…from the sidelines.
