Best Family-Friendly Easter Events In San Francisco

Always a popular holiday with children, this year Easter falls on March 27. Bay Area families looking for something fun to do together will find no shortage of festive events. Kids can celebrate the holiday doing everything from participating in a fun run to watching a parade. Here are five tops picks for family-friendly Easter events near San Francisco.

Located in Concord, Pixieland is a children's amusement park. With free admission and parking, tickets for rides are available for purchase. The Saturday before Easter, Pixieland will be holding a special Easter egg hunt and visit with the Easter Bunny. Egg hunt admission is $15, or this can be combined with several ticket packages for a full day of fun. There is an on-site café with food and drinks available for purchase, and outside food is welcome.

A student-run nonprofit organization based at Berkeley, Eggster is devoted to providing access to higher education for underprivileged youth. For each Easter season since 1995, Eggster has hosted a day-long carnival that is free and open to the public. The carnival includes an egg hunt, loads of fun learning activity booths and entertainment. Kids of all ages and abilities are welcome, and the egg hunt has special sections for young toddlers and kids in wheelchairs.

An annual Cupertino event, this year's Big Bunny 5K will be held the Saturday before Easter. The Big Bunny run is a family-friendly event with multiple options for kids' participation. The main 5K race is open to everyone, while there is a special Kids Fun Run for participants aged seven and under. Those participating in the Kids Fun Run will be divided into two groups and run one to two laps around the Library Field next to the Cupertino Library. Kids will have to opportunity to receive a race medal, as will all finishers in the 5K.

This year marks the 25th annual Union Street Easter Parade and Celebration in San Francisco. Starting at 10 a.m., the carnival will run all day with the parade at 2 p.m. Always drawing a large crowd, the parade is full of not only the traditional floats and entertainment but also wacky fun, fashion and both art and classic cars. In addition to the parade, the carnival includes an Easter bonnet hat contest, petting zoo, bounce houses and kids' rides, live music and an egg toss. The event is free and open to the public.

The Marinwood Community Services District provides resources to the unincorporated Marinwood area. With everything from a network of parks and barbeque areas to camps and public pools, residents have access to a wealth of fun and recreation. Each year around Easter, the local Las Gallinas Lions Club hosts a free egg hunt for children. For a small fee of $5, children can also have the opportunity to meet the Easter Bunny at the Lions Club's Breakfast with the bunny event immediately following the egg hunt.
