Sometimes the bar closes and you feel like you're just getting started. Somewhere between the time the bar stops serving alcohol and breakfast being served there are places where you can continue your late night into the early morning hours. Fortunately, San Francisco and the Bay Area thrives at all hours. Whether you prefer a magical view, late night eats or to continue the party, these places will help you avoid going home before the sun rises.

After all the noise at the bar, sometimes you just want to soak in the lights and sounds of San Francisco. Twin Peaks is one of the best quintessential views of the city. On a clear day, you can see the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, the city, across to the East Bay and Sausalito. It's also a great place to watch the sun rise. It does get cold and windy here, so be sure to bring a jacket and completely skip if the fog has rolled in.

Coit Tower
1 Telegraph Hill Blvd.
San Francisco, CA 94133

If you're looking for a place to hangout after hours that is closer to SoMa, North Beach and the Marina, Coit Tower serves the late night crowd well. It is a permanent fixture on the San Francisco skyline perched on top of Telegraph Hill. Although the tower is not open at night, the views from Coit Tower are open all night. Get a little exercise in by taking the stairs all the way up to the base of the tower and look around for breathtaking views of downtown and surrounding areas.

Mighty in Potrero Hill is a popular club that keeps its doors open until 4 a.m. so you can keep grooving to the DJ set long after the bar closes. Events vary but they often have a lineup of DJ sets that sometimes include a theme. Other nights you'll spot the Burning Man crowd there in the off season. Those two extra hours to dance can mean all the difference in an epic weekend.

There are times when the only cure to the bar closing is a sugar and caffeine rush. Donuts and coffee hit the spot when you've been dive bar hopping in the Richmond district. They keep up with supply and demand and selection with everything from old fashioned to sprinkles. No need to rush here, it's open 24 hours so you can hangout here at any point in between your adventures.
