We know you know Encore, Nordstrom’s plus-size department. But the South of Market Nordstrom outlet has a terrific selection of discounted clothing in plus-sizes. This surprising and hidden urban mall, featuring a Bed, Bath & Beyond and Trader Joe’s, has a two-story Nordstrom Rack with the designers you like at the discounts you love. The Plus Size section is located on the first floor, in the far corner. Just like any outlet, you’ll need to dig. But you’ll find racks of rasons to shop the Rack.

A Macy’s is a Macy’s is a Macy’s. This Macy’s, however, just happens to be the largest on the West Coast. Head to the Fourth Floor and follow the signs up a few stairs into the Macy Woman wing of this massive super-store. Ralph Lauren has it’s own plus-size boutique here, not to mention Jones New York, Eileen Fisher, Calvin Klein and a great selection of juniors plus. Don’t miss the famous Macy’s Union Square “Ladies Dresses” section, which features an entire additional section of plus size special occasion cocktail dresses and gowns.

This chain features a fun boutique at the Stonestown Mall in the Outter Sunset/Park Merced neighborhood. Torrid created a women’s plus-size fashion line inspired by fashion icons, runway shows, music and pop culture. They actually fit their line of clothing on a plus-size model so customers get fabulous fashion and fit in sizes 12-28. With labels like Betsey Johnson and Ed Hardy, Torrid is not your mom’s mumu store.

Macy’s Union Square has a horrible selection. It’s so small it is easily hidden in the back corner of the fourth floor, tucked behind a pair of escalators that are broken and don’t work. The collection, if it can be called that, consists of ancient pieces designed to look good only if you’re eighty years old. If your hair is not gray and you don’t walk with a cane, go elsewhere. Their plus size clothing is so matronly it isn’t even funny. Save your money and go somewhere else.

I think the size of their department is fine, it’s the clothes that bother me here. They went from having decent stuff to stuff that is down right ugly. It looks like apparel old women look for when shopping for a cruise. Younger women will be very disappointed. They do carry Seven jeans which I was happy to find.

And the Nordstrom Rack on 9th Street does NOT have a plus size department. I went in there recently and couldn’t find anything. I asked an employee and she said they do not carry plus size. She referred me to the Colma and East Palo Alto stores. Don’t bother with the Colma Rack. They have maybe 4 racks of plus sizes and the selection is terrible.
