Sometimes you just want to jam to a song you already know. San Francisco is home to some of the best cover bands, rocking the corner bar and the corporate ballroom like you wouldn’t believe. Get your groove on to these charmers, rocking the hits you love.

Tainted Love

The definitive San Francisco cover band, Tainted Love puts the love back in your old school mix tapes. Their shows feature an exclusively 80’s set list, including everyone’s favorites from Cyndi Lauper, Michael Jackson and George Michael. Tainted Love’s shows at classic venues always sell out, so grab those tickets early. Or, you could be lucky enough to attend one of the many private events, from galas to corporate conventions, and see everyone from the bartender to the CEO bust out their best robot on the dacefloor.

Strong Like Bull

Hilarious local rockers Strong Like Bull bring your favorite rock, pop and hipster-tunes to their San Francisco shows. Their eclectic repertoire includes Journey, The Killers, Kings of Leon, MGMT, Foo Fighters, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Guns N’ Roses, Silversun Pickups, Velvet Revolver, Rage Against the Machine, Radiohead, Bon Jovi and of course, Neil Diamond. String Like Bull: The Cover Band that Covers Other Cover Bands.

Stung is … wait for it, the Sting Cover Band. These SF locals quickly made a buzz wowing audiences at the hottest Bay Area night clubs and events around the Bay, including SF Black & White Ball, Bay to Breakers “Footstock” Concert, Bimbo’s 365 Club. Having even been blessed by a sit-in performance by Police founder / drummer Stewart Copeland at a Beverly Hills party, this trio of gifted musicians have established themselves as the premiere Police experience. Stung remain dedicated to bringing back that authentic sound that audiences have missed for so long; the sound of the early, original Police.

Super Diamond

When your parents popped in a Neil Diamond tape on repeat during long interstate road trips, you reluctantly sang along. Never thought you’d turn out to be a Diamond fan now, right? But singing along to “Sweet Caroline” and “Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show” is so addictive now, you’d do anything to see Neil on stage. This San Francisco Niel Diamond cover band can put a rest to that Diamond thirst. Super Diamond delivers a high-octane Diamond tribute show that rocks!

One of the best cover bands is Busta Groove… Hot and funky… why are they not on the list.

Why and when did cover bands start making more $$ than original music..somewhere it all went wrong..I love playing covers for a joke but not for a living

    • Just a Fan

Apparently it all went right for some of these guys.
I know one of these bands and all their members are successful full timers in something other than playing great covers. The $$ comes from entertaining those who love hearing popular songs from their heyday. Pretty sweet way to earn some extra cash and do what you love at the same time.

The Houserockers won the KFOX Last Band Standing Contest this year, and have been putting on great shows all over the Bay Area for years. 10 piece band with klller horn section playing everything from 60s R&B to Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Tower of Power and Earth Wind and Fire. Very high energy.
