Santa Clara Unveils New Emergency Text Alerts

Santa Clara County is hoping local residents will sign up for its new text message mobile emergency alert system. The emergency messages wouldn't just come over text though; they could also be delivered as an e-mail.

Board of Supervisors President Ken Yeager says that everyone who works or lives in Santa Clara County should sign up.

"A disaster can strike any time," said Yeager. "We are in an area where we know that there'll be fires, earthquakes, floods, plus there could be an incident at a school, a criminal out, or a rapist on the loose, and we need to inform people as quickly as possible."
