Alleged Drunk Driver Kills Pedestrian

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KCBS/BCN) A 57-year-old woman was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver in Walnut Creek Saturday night.

The accident occurred on Treat Boulevard just west of Bancroft Road shortly after 6 p.m.

Arriving officers found that the driver of a pickup truck was traveling east on Treat Boulevard when he lost control of the vehicle and crossed a median into westbound lanes.

The driver then steered the truck back into eastbound lanes and onto the sidewalk.

Police said he struck a pedestrian and crashed into a pine tree.

The victim was treated by emergency responders at the scene and then taken to John Muir Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

She was identified as 57-year-old Kathleen Moorehead by the Contra Costa County coroner's office.

The driver was arrested at the scene for DUI and taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries.

He was later booked into county jail and charged with vehicular manslaughter.
