Fire North of LA Nearly Contained

PALMDALE, Calif.-- Officials say perfect firefighting weather allowed crews to douse most of a 22-square mile wildfire by early Monday.

Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Matt Levesque says the fire in the high desert area north of Los Angeles was 89 percent contained, thanks to high humidity and low temperatures.

He says it will be fully contained by the end of the day.

Four homes and five outbuildings were destroyed in the blaze that started Thursday and may have been sparked by someone working on a car wheel. Levesque says investigators are still working to confirm the cause.

Levesque says 36 hand crews, three helicopters and 43 engine companies were still assigned to the fire but would be released through the day.
