Alameda Sheriff's Dept. Recaptures Three Escaped Juveniles

Three teenage inmates escaped from Alameda County's juvenile detention facility late Tuesday afternoon, but deputies managed to recapture them fairly quickly.

Authorities say all three were being held on felony charges; and at least one of them faced a murder charge.

The juvenile lockup is located near Lake Chabot on Fairmont Drive in San Leandro.

The manhunt for the teenagers was conducted less than a mile away. sheriff deputies caught them about an hour later in the area of 164th Street and Foothill Boulevard.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Department says the detention center called them at around 4:15 in the afternoon to ask for help hunting down the felons.

Because the juvenile hall is operated by the probation department, a sheriff's office spokesman could not say how the juveniles escaped.

Calls to the juvenile detention center were not returned.
