California Swim Coach Sued for Sexual Abuse

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS)_ Legal action has been filed in Santa Clara County by a former Redwood City police officer who filed suit against USA Swimming.

The former officer alleges she was molested by her swim coach 13 years ago.

The 44 page complaint was filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court by San Jose attorney Robert Allard on behalf of Jancy Thompson.

"She was molested by her former swim coach Norm Havercroft in the late 1990's when she was 15. This is part of what we believe to be a culture within USA Swimming to allow coaches to molest swimmers. USA Swimming, based upon our investigation knew about coach Havercroft through a prior swimmer," said Allard.

Thompson, a former Redwood City Police officer who's now 28, said she's still living in a hellish world.

"It affects me in my everyday life. It affects me as a mother, as a partner and it affects me as an individual on a daily basis," said Thompson.

In a statement to KCBS, USA Swimming says while they can't discuss specific cases, they have educated their membership on the need for swift reporting of suspected misconduct.

Thompson says she decided to tell her story so other young girls don't suffer a similar fate.
