Man Arrested in Livermore Standoff

LIVERMORE, Calif. (KCBS)_ A Livermore man that prompted the evacuation of a neighborhood has been arrested.

The area was shut down and several homes evacuated as police negotiated with the man who was threatening to shoot himself.

Livermore Police Lieutenant Lance Bye says the 35-year-old man said he did not want to go to jail after allegedly evading police in an early morning pursuit.

"During the course of the investigation they were able to identify who the suspect was and went to his house and attempted to contact him. He was not there at that time. Later in the morning, a relative at the house informed us that he had a gun and was suicidal," said Lt. Bye.

Bye says following the chase, police later identified the suspect and searched for him at his house on Leeds Court.

At that point a relative told officers the suspect was upstairs with a gun.

Bye says he is not believed to be threatening anyone other than himself, but police have issued a shelter-in-place warning for the neighborhood.
