Protests Against John Yoo at UC Berkeley

The first day of classes started today at Boalt Hall Law School at U.C. Berkeley and like last year, it started with a protest against a constitutional law professor.

John Yoo, who served in the administration of George W. Bush, wrote legal memos supporting CIA and military interrogation techniques. That prompted a few dozen protesters to call for his removal on the first day of classes at Boalt Hall on the Berkeley campus.

"This is what Boalt Hall is teaching its law students," one said. "It's OK to break the law."

Boalt Hall spokeswoman Susan Glauss, meanwhile, says there is no need to end the teaching career of Professor Yoo.

"Outside political activity does not play a part in your role as a professor at a university," she said.

Posters on street lamp poles around Bancroft show Yoo's portrait with the words, "Arrest John Yoo."
