AC Transit Dispute Going Back to Court

OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS)_ A contract dispute between drivers and management for Oakland-based AC Transit is heading back to the courtroom.

The transit agency's board of directors voted Wednesday to appeal a court ruling that ordered the agency into arbitration over a new contract with Amalgamated Transit Union Local 192, the union representing its drivers and mechanics.

The board also voted to appeal a separate order that prohibited the agency from imposing new working conditions.

Sam Singer, a spokesman for AC Transit, says a decision on the appeals could take two months, while the arbitration process could take up to a year.

Singer says the transit agency will comply with the court order and participate in the arbitration while the appeals are considered.
