Power Outage Cancels Classes at CSM

Afternoon and evening classes have now been canceled at the College of San Mateo because of a construction-related power outage.  Classes will resume in the morning.

Campus spokeswoman Bev Madden says it appears a sump pump failed early this morning in the load center, which allowed that room to fill with water, knocking out power.  That led officials to cancel today's classes.

"Big campus, ten-thousand students; we want to keep everyone safe out here," Madden said.

"We're hoping we may be able to, but no promises," Madden said.

Students who wish to sign up for text-message alerts can do so by visiting the district's website at www.smccd.edu and searching for "text message."

No other colleges in the district have been affected.
