Arrest in Shooting Death of San Jose Woman

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS)_ Police have arrested a man suspected in the Friday night shooting death of 28-year-old woman in west San Jose.

According to a police spokesman, the woman was found in the 1000 block of Morris Court, after callers reported a disturbance involving weapons and heard screams for help just after 9 p.m.

It's not clear if the young woman lived there. This was the city's 16th homicide of the year.

Responding officers found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Santa Clara police assisted in the response, and were flagged down by a witness on their way to the crime scene.

The witness provided a detailed suspect description, which enabled police to comb the surrounding area for the man, who was rounded up by Santa Clara police officers without incident. He was then turned over to San Jose police, according to Sgt. Ronnie Lopez.

Police have not released the suspect's identity pending the continuing investigation. Nor have they released the identity of the victim until the next of kin has been notified.
