San Jose Roads Named Worst in Nation

Some Bay Area Cities have made a dubious list for having some of the worst roads in the nation, according to a national research group's latest findings.

California is almost $4 billion short in road maintenance and safety improvements, according to Transportation California Executive Director Bert Sandman.

"Roads worsen over time, and the longer we defer maintenance, the more costly the maintenance per mile becomes," said Sandman.

San Jose was ranked number one, nationally, for having 64 percent of its roads in poor condition, according to the research.

"Antioch was 65 percent in poor condition, meaning their cost for repair per vehicle is $703," said Sandman. "Concord was 58 percent in poor condition with a cost per vehicle of $692."

Six out of the ten worst cities in the nation for poorly-maintained roads are in California.
