Small Earthquakes Shake Santa Clara County

SAN JOSE (CBS/BCN) - The U.S. Geological Survey reported that an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.3 shook Santa Clara County Tuesday morning.

According to the USGS, at 6:28 a.m. the quake rattled an area north of Henry W. Coe State Park in the foothills about 20 miles east of San Jose.

The tremor had a depth of 3.8 miles, and is the third and largest quake in the region in the past nine hours, according to the USGS.

Earlier, a 2.1 magnitude earthquake rattled an area around the Calaveras Reservoir in the foothills east of San Jose at 4:35 a.m.

The quake, which had a depth of 3.2 miles, originated from a section of the Calaveras Fault about 10 miles north-northeast of downtown San Jose, according to the USGS.
