Red Cross Shelters Dozens Displaced By SF Tenderloin Fire

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) - The American Red Cross has established a shelter for about 26 residents displaced by a suspicious fire in San Francisco's Tenderloin area, according to a statement from the organization.

The residents displaced by a suspicious apartment building fire at
550 Leavenworth Street may seek shelter at the City of Refuge building at 1025 Howard Street, the statement said.

KCBS' Anna Duckworth Reports:

The blaze was reported at the apartment building at 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

Crews took about an hour to control the fire and no injuries were reported.

Arson investigators deemed the fire suspicious, but no information was immediately available to the cause of the fire.

The Red Cross will provide food, shelter and counseling services for families displaced by the fire, and the shelter will remain open until residents can return home or find alternative housing.

Anyone interested in volunteering time or making a donation for those affected by the fire may contact 1-888-4-HELP-BAY.
