Study Finds Few Women Business Executives

(KCBS) -  Women still don't have much traction in the boardroom.

According to a new business study by the executive search firm Spencer Stuart, over the past five years women haven't made significant inroads at the top.

Women account for more than 46 percent of the American workforce, yet they make up only 16 percent of corporate directors.

KCBS' Rebecca Corral Reports:

"There is an assumption that gender is no longer relevant in organizations," said Deborah Merrill-Sands, the dean of the Lorry I. Lokey Graduate School of Business at Mills College in Oakland.

Merrill-Sands said there are more women college graduates and plenty of women in the workforce, but at the top of organizations there are still few women.

Part of the problem is perception, Merrill-Sands said, with people still thinking men have more potential to lead.
