Man Pleads Guilty To '02 Palo Alto Elderly Rape
SANTA CLARA (AP) - An illegal immigrant has pleaded guilty to raping a 94-year-old woman in a Palo Alto nursing home in 2002.
The San Jose Mercury News reported 43-year-old Roberto Cruz Recendes pleaded guilty to a sex count, elderly abuse and an enhancement of inflicting great bodily injury. He faces a 17 years in prison when he's sentenced Dec. 9.
Recendes was arrested in Mexico in 2008, six years after police arrested the wrong man in the case.
DNA collected when Recendes was arrested and deported in a Sunnyvale domestic violence case linked him to the Palo Alto Commons nursing home rape. The victim died four years later.
