San Jose Police Car Hits Pedestrian Crossing Street

SAN JOSE (BCN) - Police are investigating a traffic accident that took place Monday night involving a veteran San Jose police officer that was driving a marked squad car when he struck a pedestrian crossing the street.

At about 7:20 p.m., Officer Bach Tran, 49, was on patrol duty and traveling west on East Santa Clara Street between 13th and 14th streets in a marked San Jose police vehicle, police said.

Tran struck the victim, 63-year-old Fremont man Lakhbir Chahal, as he was crossing the street, according to police.

Chahal was taken by ambulance to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Tran, who has 17 years of service with the department, was uninjured.
