Sacramento State Student Kidnapped, Raped

SACRAMENTO (AP) - Sacramento State University police are investigating what a detective calls an exceedingly rare kidnapping and forcible sexual assault on campus.

The female student says three men pulled her into a van and sexually assaulted her in a campus parking lot Thursday night.

Campus police Det. Scott Christian says most campus sexual assaults involve acquaintances. He can't recall a similar assault by strangers since he started college there 15 years ago.

Campus statistics show three forcible sex offenses at the university last year and none in 2007. This school year, prosecutors dropped charges against a man accused of assaulting an acquaintance.

There are no arrests in Thursday's kidnapping and assault, Christian said Saturday.

The department is increasing its patrols around residence halls as a result.
