5 Arrested In San Francisco Pepper Spray Robberies

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) -- San Francisco police on Saturday arrested five people suspected in a series of pepper-spray robberies last week, a police sergeant said Monday.

The group is believed to be responsible for at least five robberies in which the victims were sprayed with pepper spray in various neighborhoods last Wednesday and Thursday nights, according to police spokesman Sgt. Mike Andraychak.

Wednesday's robberies took place in the Mission District, Lower Haight and along the Tenderloin-Nob Hill border, according to police. Thursday's robberies happened in Lower Pacific Heights and Cow Hollow.

In response to the robberies, the Police Department deployed its Violence Reduction Team around the city. On Saturday, officers found the suspects' vehicle and arrested two adults and three juveniles, police said.

Some of the stolen items were recovered, according to police.

Arrested were Jalil Leon Jones, 27, of Hayward, and Troyetta Carpenter, 18, of San Francisco, on suspicion of robbery, possession of stolen property, conspiracy, probation violation, and possession of methamphetamine, police said.

The names of the juvenile suspects, all San Francisco residents, were not released.

Police are asking witnesses or anyone with information about the robberies to contact the Police Department.
