Cow Palace Bans Rave Events

DALY CITY (KCBS)- The Board of Directors of the Cow Palace has decided to end electronic music shows at the Daly City venue, following drug related deaths and hospitalizations. Two people died at rave shows in May, and 17 more were hospitalized from overdoses last month.

"At my recommendation, the Cow Palace Board of Directors agreed we should not have these events," said CEO of the Cow Palace, Joe Barkett.

KCBS' Margie Shafer Reports:

He notes that the Cow Palace worked with reputable promoters, and took steps to ensure police security and medical personnel.

"I really didn't think there was any significant improvements that we could make in terms of the promoters that we had doing events, or the security measures we would take, that could ensure that a few people would not potentially seriously harm themselves by overdosing on drugs," said Barkett.

Barkett promises new events at the Cow Palace in the coming year which benefit to the community.
