Grandmother, Grandson Found Shot Dead In Livermore Home

LIVERMORE (BCN) -- An elderly woman and her grandson were found dead at a home in Livermore Thursday evening in what is being considered a possible murder-suicide, police said Friday.

Police responded around 7:25 p.m. Thursday to a report of two people found dead inside a home in the 600 block of Canterbury Avenue.

Friends of the family said they had gone to the house to visit and check on the elderly woman and her middle-aged grandson, according to police.

They entered to find the woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the head, police said. Her grandson was found alongside her, also dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

KCBS' Margie Shafer Reports:

The names of the woman and grandson have not been released.

The case is being investigated as a possible murder-suicide, police Sgt. Brian Martinez said.

"Nothing's been determined, but we're going to look at that angle," Martinez said.

Family friends told officers the grandson suffered from mental illness and had a history of illegal drug use, police said.

Investigators are trying to determine if that information is relevant to the case.
